Haitian Culture is excited to partner with Yuyuan Lantern Festival to bring the enchanting "Shan Hai Qi Yu Ji" lantern show to Hanoi, Vietnam, marking a spectacular moment in cultural exchange. On January 18, 2025 Ocean International Lantern Festival officially illuminated the night skies of Hanoi, celebrating the shared history and deep friendship between China and Vietnam. Last time, we made Japanese style lanterns for the opening ceremony of Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival in Hanoi in 2019.
The year 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of China-Vietnam diplomatic relations and is designated as the "China-Vietnam Cultural Exchange Year." The "Shan Hai Qi Yu Ji" lantern exhibit celebrates this milestone, offering a vivid and radiant reflection of the longstanding bonds of friendship between the two nations. As the first "Intangible Cultural Heritage Chinese New Year" is celebrated, the colorful lanterns not only bring joy and festivity but also deepen mutual understanding and respect between the peoples of China and Vietnam.
The "Shan Hai Qi Yu Ji" lantern series, which draws inspiration from the ancient Chinese text Shan Haijing(Classic of Mountains and Seas), takes the audience on a journey through mythical beasts, enchanted plants, and the marvelous landscapes of Chinese mythology. For this special event, Haitian Culture has carefully crafted a visually stunning and culturally rich light exhibition that merges Chinese traditions with the unique architectural landscape of Hanoi’s streets.
Since its debut in 2023, "Shan Hai Qi Yu Ji" has become a beloved and iconic series, blending ancient myths with contemporary lantern art. This year, multiple key characters from the series are making their first appearance in Vietnam, including the popular mascot “Feng Feng” alongside the “Rainbow Dragon,” “Dragon Fish Princess,” and “Great Fortune Beast.” These mythical figures, along with the stars of the 2024 Chinese New Year lantern display, “One Night Fish Dragon Dance,” and the “Sacred Tree” of the 2025 Snake Year Lantern Festival, have transformed Hanoi into a glowing masterpiece. With each lantern shining brightly in Hanoi, we invite visitors to join us in experiencing the enchanting blend of ancient tradition and modern innovation.
