The Year of the Dragon Lantern Festival is set to open at one of Europe's oldest zoos, the Budapest Zoo, from Dec 16, 2023 to Feb 24, 2024. Visitors can enter the wonderfully vibrant world of the Year of the Dragon Festival, from 5-9 pm daily.
2024 is the Year of the Dragon in the Chinese Lunar calendar. The dragon lantern festival is also a part of the "Happy Chinese New Year" program, which is co-organized by the Budapest Zoo, Zigong Haitian Culture Co.,Ltd, and the China-Europe Economic and Cultural Tourism Development Center, with support from the Chinese Embassy in Hungary, the China National Tourist Office and the Budapest China Cultural Center in Budapest.
The lantern exhibition features nearly 2 kilometers of illuminated pathways and 40 sets of diverse lanterns, including giant lanterns, crafted lanterns, decorative lanterns and themed lantern sets inspired by traditional Chinese folklore, classical literature and mythical stories. Various animal-shaped lanterns will showcase exceptional artistic charm to visitors.
Throughout the lantern festival, there will be a series of Chinese cultural experiences, including a lighting ceremony, a traditional Hanfu parade and a creative New Year painting exhibition. The event will also illuminate the Global Auspicious Dragon Lantern for the "Happy Chinese New Year" program, and limited-edition lanterns will be available for purchase. Global Auspicious Dragon Lantern is authorized by Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China for one of the presentation of official mascot of year of dragon customized by Haitian Culture.
